About

Sarah Vanderburgh loves colourful fabric and quilts are her playground. She has been designing quilt patterns from her very first quilt almost 30 years ago! She is a self taught quilter who learned from quilting magazines and books borrowed from the library. Most of her quilts include traditionally pieced blocks constructed with modern piecing techniques.

Sarah created tutorials as a blogger for QUILTsocial.com as well as sewing machine reviews. She has had quilt patterns published in Canadian magazines and online magazines.

Sarah is an elementary special education teacher and uses her teaching skills to produce clear, easy to follow patterns. Her encouraging and supportive nature inspires quilters to look to her for colour advice and guidance as they decide on fabrics to use in their projects.

Sarah continues to blog and collaborate with other designers in blog hops. She is inspired by nature and the seasons in northern Ontario where she lives with her husband and cats.

Sew Joy Creations came about when Sarah started sharing her quilting through a blog in 2009. She was diagnosed with endometriosis in the late 1990s and found quilting as a way to contribute joy into her world. The desire to share the joy of quilting was the reason she named her blog Sew Joy Creations. Quilting remains even as her endometriosis has resolved through menopause. Being able to have children was a marvellous joy that led to many creative quilting projects! Her daughter has started to quilt which (does it need to be said!) has added another glimmer of joy to her story.
